Lorenzo de’ Medici lived for 43years, from 1449-1492. He was the ruler of Florence, and he was called The Magnificent. His family owned a bank, and in 1478 the Pazzi family tried to assassinate him. They chased him and his brother, Giuliano age 25, into the Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore. Lorenzo escaped, but his brother was killed in the church.
Leonardo da Vinci lived for 67 years, from 1452-1519. He was an architect, artist, engineer, painter, sculptor, and a scientist. He is still considered one of the greatest intellectuals of all time. His most famous painting is the “Mona Lisa”, and she is on view in Paris, France, in the Louvre Museum. His other great work is “The Last Supper”, and it is painted on a wall in the church at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy.
“Primavera” or “Springtime” by Botticelli was created between 1477–1482, and is located in the Uffizi museum in Florence, Italy.
Sandro Botticelli was born Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, and he lived for approximately 65 years, from 1445-May 17, 1510. Botticelli means “little barrel”. He was commissioned by Giuliano de’ Medici to paint the “Birth of Venus” and “Primavera”. It was said that Giuliano was in love with Simonetta Vespucci, and his only way to possess her was by capturing her in a painting. Botticelli was also enamored with her, and it is her face that you see repeated in all of the females throughout his paintings.
